Tutoring in Boulder County, Colorado
I have constructed lessons for 9th through 12th graders for over fifteen years and so have much experience teaching teens. I also write children's literature, and so I welcome elementary and middle grade learners. I enjoy helping students not just to understand what they read but appreciate it and maybe even love it. I am available to tutor in your home or a public location in Boulder County. Times are flexible. Please visit the Contact Us page scheduling and fees.
TEST TAKING: I prepare students for the ACT, the SAT, and the AP Literature Exam. Individually constructed lessons teach students how to take multiple choice tests, how to read quickly and still find meaning, how to effectively build vocabulary, and how to write a timed essay.
READING: I teach students how to engage with the the texts so they can uncover new understanding in character, plot, theme while also paying attention to how a story is told. Students will gain skills that will help them unravel a text and see the work for all its components--structure, style, narrative voice, and theme.
WRITING: I teach basic and advanced skills to help students understand voice, structure, and conventions. I also teach the college essay, a unit I enjoy working on with students because it allows them to tell their own stories in an artful way. I have example and mentor texts to assist students in understanding the end goal.
